Q: I am 62 years of age, employed full time and my wife and I run a SMSF. During this financial year, I intend to enter into a period of long service leave, with the view to retire sometime in November 2025. My long service leave will extend into financial year 2025-26. I am seeking information regarding continuing concessional superannuation contributions. As my retirement date will be part way through the 2025-26 financial year, can I make maximum concessional contributions, or will it be pro-rata for the period I remain in employment?

A: The full concessional cap is available every financial year.

Those under age 67 can make concessional super contributions (including personal tax deductible contributions) no matter their work status, including if they are retired or not working.

From age 67, a person must meet the work test to continue making personal tax deductible contributions.
