Q: I’m interested in using the First Home Super Saver (FHSS) scheme, but I’m confused about the earnings that the ATO will calculate on my contributions. Do I receive compounding interest or only simple interest?

A: When calculating your available FHSS withdrawal amount, the ATO applies interest to the net amount of each of your eligible contributions, and that interest is compounded daily.

Interestingly, the interest rate is high compared with savings accounts outside super, and there’s also a potential tax saving, leaving more after-tax money for your first home purchase.

Learn more about the FHSS.

The introduction of Payday Super in July means your employer now has to pay your super faster and more often. Check your super account transactions today to see the impact, and check you’re getting what you’re entitled to. Read more about what payday super means for you.
