Division 296: The new tax on your super savings is now law!

The Australian Government recently passed new legislation to levy additional tax on Superannuation retirement savings starting July 1, 2026.

Q: I am the nominated beneficiary of my deceased husband’s superannuation fund. What options are available on how I receive this superannuation amount as the nominated beneficiary?

Do I automatically receive the funds to my nominated bank account? 

Do I have the option of transferring the inherited super funds to my own superannuation fund and if so, what limits apply? I have a pension fund set up when the limit was $1.6m with deposited funds of $1.2m.
