IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Watch our previous webinar, SuperGuide members Q&A: December 2024.

Q: My employment contract says my total package including super is $85,000. With the super rate going up from 11.5% to 12% on 1 July, can I expect to lose money out of my pay?

A: Yes, unless your package changes before the increase, your take-home pay will reduce when the superannuation guarantee rate goes up.

Using your example, your total package is currently made up of $76,233 salary plus $8,767 super (approximately). From 1 July 2025, the increased superannuation obligation means salary must reduce to $75,893 to accommodate the 12% super rate under the same $85,000 total package.

Received an inheritance or another lump sum? Consider whether your super account could be the right place to invest some of the amount.
