Q: I am applying for a TPD super claim. Is it a stipulation of claim decision that I had to have worked a minimum of 30 hours a week for 2 months consecutively to be eligible for a payment?

A: The requirements to claim on TPD cover vary depending on the policy.

Details of eligibility requirements can be found in the insurance guide that forms part of your super fund’s Product Disclosure Statement (PDS) and/or in the super fund’s insurance policy document.

It is common for work requirements to exist that impact:

  1. Whether you are eligible for TPD cover to be automatically issued to you when you join the fund, and
  2. The definition of TPD that you must meet to qualify for a payment.

Since eligibility rules differ from fund to fund, we’re not able to assist you more specifically. Your super fund can direct you to the information that is relevant to your membership with them and answer any questions you have.

The end of the financial year will be here before you know it. Now is the time to get in any last minute tax deductible contributions to boost your tax return, and if your income for the year will be under $62,488 don’t miss out on getting your after-tax contributions in on time to qualify for a co-contribution.
