DIY Super Seminar

The Australian Investors’ Association is running a one-day seminar for DIY super trustees in Melbourne called ‘Investing Strategies for SMSFs’. Trish Power is one of six speakers for the day. In Trish’s session, which is the first for the day, she will tackle the perennial question investors ask themselves – shall I invest directly and/or invest via managed funds?

You will also discover how to create your own fund benchmark using ‘Trish’s rough and ready guide’ to individual super benchmarking. You must be mindful of the specific investment restrictions that apply to SMSF investing, including the rules relating to non-cash contributions and the general rule precluding borrowing to invest within a SMSF. Trish explains the handful of exceptions when a SMSF is permitted to borrow, and the ATO’s view on possible borrowing scenarios. And due to popular demand, Trish briefly explores the opportunities available when investing in property within your SMSF.

Other speakers will be covering investing for pensions, asset allocation issues, growth stocks, value stocks and also estate planning.

The AIA is offering SuperGuide readers a special discount for the one-day seminar. Although non-members would usually have to join the AIA to attend, the AIA has kindly extended the member rate to SuperGuide readers. To access the SuperGuide discount, you must call Rebecca at the AIA on 1300 555 061 and quote ‘AIA Silvana’.
